The China Observer Returns – Version 2.0

Joel on February 13, 2011 - 1:15 am in Archive, Uncategorized

Happy Chinese New Year to all of my readers! I want to ensure that The China Observer remains a valuable resource for Chinese consumer intelligence, technology trends and Asia Pacific business insight in the year of the rabbit and beyond. To that end, I decided to invest in an updated blog template to improve user experience for my readers. The new format is clearer, consolidates key information into easily understandable categories, and represents an overall enhancement of the original site.

Since founding The China Observer, my aim has always been to serve as a bridge between China and the world. After being disappointed with the work of many supposed “China experts” over the years, I have made it a point to deliver high-quality, trustworthy insights to my readers. To fill that role, I must spend time on both sides of the Pacific. I have spent over five years in Asia, working in Taipei, Beijing, Singapore and Shanghai. My experience includes but is not limited to consulting for Chinese Internet firms, restructuring inefficient Chinese state-owned enterprises, and serving as interim head of Asia Pacific for a high-growth global business intelligence firm.

In the process of developing this rich knowledge of the Asia Pacific region, I recognize that I may have become a bit disconnected from the other side of the bridge.  The right opportunity has emerged for me to take a sojourn in the U.S., where I will spend the next few years working in a global role with Frontier Strategy Group at their Washington, D.C. headquarters. My territory will expand beyond the Asia Pacific region to include Latin America and the EMEA emerging markets. I will definitely remain plugged in to Asia through regular trips and constant contact with my clients in markets there. While an Asia-oriented career remains my long-term focus, I view this as a tremendous opportunity to expand my knowledge and global perspective, and I believe that my time in the US will be crucial to remaining a credible voice on both sides of the ocean

Be on the lookout for more regular posts in 2011. The China Observer will continue to be an essential resource for anyone interested China-focused technology trends, consumer insights and multinational best practice intelligence. Thank you for your ongoing readership.
