China’s rising middle-class has a variety of options when it comes to grocery shopping. In Beijing we have Carrefour, Wal-Mart and other specialty stores like Jenny Lou’s. Many Chinese people, however, buy their meat and produce at small-scale open markets. The Chinese apartment complex that I currently call home has a small market with a butcher’s table not much different from the one in this photo.

Great image. Same in Shenzhen. The small outdoor markets are extremely popular despite other options.
