Observer ABC: Making Sense of the Message

see post: Spread the message, China Mobile's cashing in

Many of you may have been curious about the meaning of the SMS message in my previous post covering the bulk SMS phenomenon in China. The content is not the most relevant to the Chinese marketplace, but it is still an interesting lesson on Chinese culture.

I found the SMS message online on xf1.cn. It is based on former CPC leader Jiang Zemin’s “three representatives” ideology.

The original three representatives are:

1) 我们党要始终代表中国先进生产力的发展要求
We will at all times represent the development demands for the advanced productive forces of China.
We will at all times represent the orientation of the progress of an advanced Chinese culture.
We will at all times represent the ultimate interests of the broad masses of China.

The SMS message three representatives are (written for girls to send to their girlfriends):
1) 你始终代表中国美女发展的方向
You will at all times represent the development of China’s beautiful women.
You will at all times represent the orientation of the progress of Chinese women’s wisdom and charm.
You will at all times be the “Snow White*” ideal woman for the broad masses of China’s men.

*Extra Observer ABC:
Princess Snow White = Ideal Woman
White Horse Prince = Ideal Man
